DESCRIPTION
This is a Normandy camo inspiration from some recent YouTube videos I had been watching depicting rough chunky camo paint patterns seen by German forces awaiting the eventually Allied invasion across what was believe to be most likely at the time due to it being the most narrow way across the English Channel from Calais Point crossing (Pointe De Calais) .
I started out with an original MINT M42 NS66 shell and rear marked NS66 D350 stampings, repainted it from bare metal to factory stock feld grau paint both inside and outside. Then I mixed directly into the dark yellow beige base coat some actually wood chips and rocky debris from a nearby field. So there is actually real world texture embedded into the enamel paint. I then added by horse hair brush the following dark forest green and reddish brown overpaint applied hastily in order to mimic in the field conditions at the time.
I then professionally aged the paint to give it a battle worn appearance and a helmet that has seen real live battle. The SS decal is an in house creation and metallic in nature and so has a slight shimmer just like the originals do and has been tea toned down to blend in with the rest of the outside camo paint. The inside liner is an aged reproduction and an aged reproduction chinstrap can be added for an additional $25 to complete the piece.
The overall result achieved is a pretty cool looking lid in my opinion on an original WW2 German shell.

GERMAN HELMET FACTORY PRODUCTION CODES
(Every original German helmet produced from 1935 to 45 had two factory stampings punched into the side and rear or both in the rear. The alpha numeric number refers to the factory location and the inside metric circumference in centimeters. The rear lot number refers to the production run and was used as a quality control measure. The font styles used at each factory were slightly different but highly consistent throughout the war and so fakes or reproductions will either not have these numbers at all or they will use the wrong font style or letter spacing and so are easily identified as post war made.)
