M35 Q66 ALLGEMEINE-SS MATCHING LOT HELMET (Tribute Restoration)

TRIBUTE RESTORATION
A new category of helmets has now been created here on the website referred to as "Tribute Restorations". These particular helmets differ from the vast majority of regular original German helmet shells I use in that the rear lot number matches up to either a known Waffen SS or Kriegsmarine helmet according to Brian Ice's extensive data book. Generally speaking SS lot numbered helmets or KM lot numbered helmets represent only about 1/100 with most linking back to Heer or Luftwaffe. My mission here is to try and roll back the clock as best I can and make these helmets as they would have appeared during the war. Historically accurate decals and the correct paint color and texture are essential in this endeavor. My efforts as a "tribute" to the battle hardened experiences of all those men who fought in WW2.

DESCRIPTION
Here is one of my latest artist creations. A pre-war SS-Allgemeine double decal helmet which would have served as a guard or parade helmet during the fledging years of the SS before they had a fighting (Waffen) component to their organization. The helmet is actually very rare and special in that it has a matching SS lot number and so this is actually how it looked just before WW2. This tribute helmet M35 Q66 lot 1151 does appear in Brian Ice's lot data book as a rare black painted double decal SS helmet.

In order to give this tribute helmet it's full due historically speaking I also added an original liner system dated 1938 and original chinstrap to go along with it. Helmets like these only appear in text books as there are very few in existence as most were stripped down and repainted for later use in the war.

The flecks of mud and debris on the helmet can be wiped away cleaning but were added to give it a bit of a barn find effect.

GERMAN HELMET FACTORY PRODUCTION CODES
(Every original German helmet produced from 1935 to 45 had two factory stampings punched into the side and rear or both in the rear.  The alpha numeric number refers to the factory location and the inside metric circumference in centimeters.  The rear lot number refers to the production run and was used as a quality control measure. The font styles used at each factory were slightly different but highly consistent throughout the war and so fakes or reproductions will either not have these numbers at all or they will use the wrong font style or letter spacing and so are easily identified as post war made.)
