M42 EF64 SD SS MATCHING TRIBUTE (Restored)

DESCRIPTION
M42 EF64 WAFFEN-SS SD TRIBUTE HELMET (Restored)
Brought back by popular demand I was recently able to identify this matching SS lot numbered helmet among a number of original shells I was fortunate enough to get my hands on. This M42 EF64 has a clearly stamped rear lot number 1281 which according to Brian Ice's lot data book means that this originally did leave the factory as an SS helmet in late 1942 and so was most likely used during the war by this same branch of service.

This helmet was original painted in 1950's Czech black paint which although ugly to look at definitely served the helmet well by preserving the underlying steel from the elements over time. Most EF helmets have very weak stampings with barely visible factory markings but this helmet is a nice exception to that rule with clearly legible alphanumeric indentations so much so that you can actually see the rear lot protruding slightly from the back skirt.

The helmet was given a field gray enamel paint finish smooth on the inside but with rough texture on the outside, then a factory textbook EF SS decal was added whereby the left more rakish rune almost touches the outside black shield line. A professionally aged liner and RBN numbered chinstrap was added to complete the piece.

TRIBUTE RESTORATION
A new category of helmets has now been created here on the website referred to as "Tribute Restorations". These particular helmets differ from the vast majority of regular original German helmet shells I use in that the rear lot number matches up to either a known Waffen SS or Kriegsmarine helmet according to Brian Ice's extensive data book. Generally speaking SS lot numbered helmets or KM lot numbered helmets represent only about 1/100 with most linking back to Heer or Luftwaffe. My mission here is to try and roll back the clock as best I can and make these helmets as they would have appeared during the war. Historically accurate decals and the correct paint color and texture are essential in this endeavor. My efforts as a "tribute" to the battle hardened experiences of all those men who fought in WW2.

GERMAN HELMET FACTORY PRODUCTION CODES
(Every original German helmet produced from 1935 to 45 had two factory stampings punched into the side and rear or both in the rear.  The alpha numeric number refers to the factory location and the inside metric circumference in centimeters.  The rear lot number refers to the production run and was used as a quality control measure. The font styles used at each factory were slightly different but highly consistent throughout the war and so fakes or reproductions will either not have these numbers at all or they will use the wrong font style or letter spacing and so are easily identified as post war made.)
