M40 EF64 SD HEER ORIGINAL LINER (Restored)

DESCRIPTION
This M40 EF64 SD Heer helmet was in a private family's collection for over 80+ years and was brought back home by the owner's uncle from WW2. Sadly the helmet while all original had several layers of post war paint applied to it back in the 1960's and 70's according to the owner. I bought it from him because of the family provenance but mainly because it still had it's original liner still intact as well as a make its field added chinstrap. The chinstrap is actually riveted into place by machine and both steel studs on either end have a lot of natural patina and oxidization making me belief that most likely this is a wartime added chinstrap re-issued or remade by the German soldier himself to replace one that had broken on him.

The outside paint is a textured dark feld grau color with a smooth enamel finish on the inside. A nice mid war M40 EF64 with a rear lot number 11371 suggests a production date of late 1941. The Heer eagle is a textbook Huber Jordan u. Koerner with a tea tone effect added to create a more naturally aged appearance.

Again the mid war liner, 3 split pins, and brown leather strap are all original to the helmet just as it was brought home in tact after the war by the owner's family member.

GERMAN HELMET FACTORY PRODUCTION CODES
(Every original German helmet produced from 1935 to 45 had two factory stampings punched into the side and rear or both in the rear.  The alpha numeric number refers to the factory location and the inside metric circumference in centimeters.  The rear lot number refers to the production run and was used as a quality control measure. The font styles used at each factory were slightly different but highly consistent throughout the war and so fakes or reproductions will either not have these numbers at all or they will use the wrong font style or letter spacing and so are easily identified as post war made.)
