M38 ET71 PARATROOPER NORMANDY SD (Restored)

DESCRIPTION
Here is one of my latest artist creations. A mid-war M38 ET71 Fallschrimjager (Paratrooper) single decal helmet in a half cage wire basket in a muted three color Normandy camouflaged paint scheme.

The helmet was first painted in the official Luftwaffe factory code RAL7016, a dark blue gray color with a smooth enamel exterior finish. The correct ET style Adler eagle was then added and lacquer sealed in and so is now protected for decades to come. A corresponding tri-color national shield was also added just like it would have been done at the factory and is nicely peaking through the camo paint.

I then went ahead and gave the helmet several layers of accurate Normandy camo paint in red brick browns, dark forest greens all on a dark yellow tan backdrop. The half wire basket was sourced from old fencing wire rolls I have on hand purchased about 20 years from a farmer's market and so it was already naturally old when I bought it.

The outside paint was then naturally darkened and physically aged under natural conditions without the use of any chemical agents making this helmet completely odor free. I do not use any power drills or machines in my aging process and so you will not see any unsightly circular tool marks or parallel scratch lines in any of my work.

The shell is a high level reproduction from vintage European stockpiles when they knew how to recreate German paratrooper helmets with the correct upward slope towards the front brow. Notice how this slope is gradual and almost flat in nature just like the originals and not a sharp abrupt slope from flat to a steep 25 degree angle we see with most modern reproduced shells coming out of Asia. On original paratrooper helmets the rim slopes upward near the front on a much flatter angle of about 15 degrees and so much more subtle and gradual in nature. The result is a subtle, gradual transition toward the brow that stays true to the flatter profile of genuine wartime originals.

The liner is natural calf skin and has the correct end over end stitching where the two halves meet at the base. The chinstrap has been gently aged and is a decent stand in but not the highest quality but easy enough to change out a a later date if the new owner so chooses.

GERMAN HELMET FACTORY PRODUCTION CODES
(Every original German helmet produced from 1935 to 45 had two factory stampings punched into the side and rear or both in the rear.  The alpha numeric number refers to the factory location and the inside metric circumference in centimeters.  The rear lot number refers to the production run and was used as a quality control measure. The font styles used at each factory were slightly different but highly consistent throughout the war and so fakes or reproductions will either not have these numbers at all or they will use the wrong font style or letter spacing and so are easily identified as post war made.)
