DESCRIPTION
This helmet came from a private collector who bought it at an estate auction many years ago when single decal Heer helmets were still easy enough to find. Today the marketplace has really tightened up on Heer single decal helmets with most of them I suspect being already locked up in private collections around the world especially in Europe. There are even YouTube videos asking "Where Have All the German Helmets Gone" as far fewer examples are now available on the open marketplace than in past years. I count myself to be part of the problem as I too have about 40 mint helmets stashed away in my storage locker never to see the light of day until my retirement savings runs out or hopefully one of my son's inherits the collecting bug.
The shell is an NS64 and rear marked D240 which according to Brian Ice's lot data book places the the factory production date to early 1942. The eagle decal is nearly 100% in tact which is remarkable and is your classic textbook C.A. Pocher design seen mainly on NS helmets. A real beautiful black shield that really catches the eye and was fortunately never de-nazified or messed with in any way after the war. The inside liner is an aged reproduction as is the chinstrap in my opinion. All 3 split pins have the same paint color and texture and appear original to the helmet which is a nice bonus.
A real nice one looker SD Heer that basically every collector wants to add to their showroom shelves. Although they look plentiful on my website, SD Heers with really nice decals are getting harder and harder to find these days.

GERMAN HELMET FACTORY PRODUCTION CODES
(Every original German helmet produced from 1935 to 45 had two factory stampings punched into the side and rear or both in the rear. The alpha numeric number refers to the factory location and the inside metric circumference in centimeters. The rear lot number refers to the production run and was used as a quality control measure. The font styles used at each factory were slightly different but highly consistent throughout the war and so fakes or reproductions will either not have these numbers at all or they will use the wrong font style or letter spacing and so are easily identified as post war made.)
