MASSIVE M35 ET68 LUFTWAFFE DD (Restored)

DESCRIPTION
The helmet is a rarely seen and highly sought after M35 ET68 factory produced pre-war sometime in the summer of 1936 during the Spanish civil war. This helmet originally came out of the estate of a collector who had mainly post war Normandy camos his family thought were real but all on original shells. This particular ET68 (in gothic script) interested me as they are rather hard to come by these days most already being part of private collections. When I checked the rear production lot number of 2923 and cross referenced it with Brian Ice's lot data book as I pleasantly surprised to see that it matched up to both an uber rare Chinese National single decal helmet as well as an early pre-war Luftwaffe Snakeleg configuration and so both were possible.

I decided to go the German route and make this a pre-war Luftwaffe Snakeleg DD. The eagle is a textbook ET snakeleg eagle with a lacquer protective top coating and some tea tone aging for effect. The same procedure was done on the national shield so that both would match. The inside liner is aluminum banded with square chinstrap bales and ink stamped size 61 which refers to the circumference in centimeters.

The chinstrap is dated and made by Franz Brehme using an aluminum buckle. All in all a wonderful looking shelf Queen and in a massive size ET68 most likely dwarfing all other helmets in your collection.

GERMAN HELMET FACTORY PRODUCTION CODES
(Every original German helmet produced from 1935 to 45 had two factory stampings punched into the side and rear or both in the rear.  The alpha numeric number refers to the factory location and the inside metric circumference in centimeters.  The rear lot number refers to the production run and was used as a quality control measure. The font styles used at each factory were slightly different but highly consistent throughout the war and so fakes or reproductions will either not have these numbers at all or they will use the wrong font style or letter spacing and so are easily identified as post war made.)
