M35 Q66 LUFTWAFFE DD HELMET

DESCRIPTION
This helmet was delivered to me from a farming community in rural Ontario, Canada as something passed down through the family. Interestingly enough most WW2 German helmets are in the US much more so than in any other Allied country who just didn't seem to have the postal resources we did at the time.

This is a beautiful example of a pre-war Luftwaffe M35 Quist large sized 66 helmet that would have left the factory around the summer of 1939 just before the invasion of Poland according to it's rear lot number of 4382.

Nice to see an example of blue-gray smooth enamel Luftwaffe paint still in tact and not painted over in a textured blue gray refinish as so many were post 1940 for better concealment int he field. This original pre-war paint color is actually using the German RAL color coded paint system and is referred to as RAL7016 known as Anthrazitgrau (anthracite grey). The Luftwaffe decal is your classic Quist version and textbook along with it's tri-color national shield both at around 90% still in tact.

The liner is your M31 version with a re-enforced aluminum outer band and square chinstrap bales as seen in liners made from 1935-39 however the leather looks a bit suspicious to me as it does not seem to sit perfectly on the liner band and so might be an original added post war to complete the piece.

A great helmet for a newer collector looking for version of the classic double decal M35 Luftwaffe helmet and in a nice large size Q66 to boot!

GERMAN HELMET FACTORY PRODUCTION CODES
(Every original German helmet produced from 1935 to 45 had two factory stampings punched into the side and rear or both in the rear.  The alpha numeric number refers to the factory location and the inside metric circumference in centimeters.  The rear lot number refers to the production run and was used as a quality control measure. The font styles used at each factory were slightly different but highly consistent throughout the war and so fakes or reproductions will either not have these numbers at all or they will use the wrong font style or letter spacing and so are easily identified as post war made.)
