DESCRIPTION
This is a beautiful three color Normandy camo helmet on an original M40 SE60 German helmet with it's original liner and 3 split pins still in tact. The chinstrap I believe it also original to the helmet and is some type of field hybrid as perhaps the wearer was a bit too small for a standard length chinstrap. I believe it was mink oiled back in the day which kept it soft and pliable but a tends to darken it a bit. Fortunately the liner itself was not mink oiled otherwise it would be near black by now which tends to happen.
When I first received this helmet nearly all of the outside paint and Heer eagle were worn away over time. A good customer of mine sent it to me for a museum level restoration on a big budget and wanted it to represent a top of the line three color Normandy camo pattern. I went ahead and did the work but unfortunately his marriage fell into hard times and he abandoned the project with me I guess saving his Harley's was more of a priority now.
Here is the result which I am quite pleased with!
After spending the past 15+ years professionally restoring helmets I must say I am starting to really create some magic here at times or maybe I'm just delusional.
My father was a realistic painter who painted wild life that almost looked like photographs. He died in 2014 without me getting the chance to know him that well. I on the other hand cannot draw to save my life and always hated art class and don't really care for self absorbed artists in general. I have perhaps inherited some of his artistic talent and believe I have always at least had an eye for colors and details. But much like how Stanley Kubrick liked to direct films I too never know what I want I just know what I don't want and then work backwards from there.

GERMAN HELMET FACTORY PRODUCTION CODES
(Every original German helmet produced from 1935 to 45 had two factory stampings punched into the side and rear or both in the rear. The alpha numeric number refers to the factory location and the inside metric circumference in centimeters. The rear lot number refers to the production run and was used as a quality control measure. The font styles used at each factory were slightly different but highly consistent throughout the war and so fakes or reproductions will either not have these numbers at all or they will use the wrong font style or letter spacing and so are easily identified as post war made.)
