M35 SE64 SD KRIEGSMARINE ORIGINAL PAINT (Tribute)

DESCRIPTION
This helmet is a 100% original factory painted example of an M35 SE64 lot 22000 helmet that would have been painted in 1940 when they transitioned away from pea green pre-war smooth enamel paint to a darker field gray textured color for better concealment in the field. Fortunately, the original soldier hand painted his name inside the rear back skirt which really helps to personalize the helmet.

Basically this would have been an M35 shell that was being sent to the factory along with other M40 shells to be painted as per the new 1940 specifications from older stockpiles. When I first received this helmet the decal was just a ghost image as it appeared to have been intentionally scraped away or lost over time.

This helmet is rather rare as it has a KRIEGSMARINE matching rear lot number 22000 according to Brian Ice's lot data book. Meaning that this helmet when it first left the factory in 1941 was actually a KM helmet.

Since matching KM lot numbers is no easy thing to find I went ahead and created this tribute helmet whereby I replaced the missing decal with a golden metallic Kriegsmarine adler/eagle decal to complete the piece. I further slightly darkened the decal to blend in with the rest of the outside helmet.

GERMAN HELMET FACTORY PRODUCTION CODES
(Every original German helmet produced from 1935 to 45 had two factory stampings punched into the side and rear or both in the rear.  The alpha numeric number refers to the factory location and the inside metric circumference in centimeters.  The rear lot number refers to the production run and was used as a quality control measure. The font styles used at each factory were slightly different but highly consistent throughout the war and so fakes or reproductions will either not have these numbers at all or they will use the wrong font style or letter spacing and so are easily identified as post war made.)
