DESCRIPTION
An excellent wartime example of a dispatch rider's helmet dated 1944 and in a size 6 3/4.
This pattern of helmet was introduced specifically for British and Canadian motorcyclists in 1942 and saw widespread issue throughout the rest of the Second World War. It shares the same shell as the Canadian First Airborne Troops but has a different liner system which is specific to this pattern.
The date is stamped inside the leather headband as well as the manufacture 'BS' which stands for Backstay Standard one of the most prolific helmet manufactures of the Second World War. With the LS and CLC stamping on the rear skirt and the fact that this shell is slightly more flared out than the British version we can safely assume that this helmet was used by a Canadian WW2 solider fighting in Europe as opposed to a British rider. Probably only 1/10 dispatch rider's helmets are Canadian issued verses the more common British version making this a much rarer example.
The outside of the helmet retains the vast majority of its original textured paint with a two tone camo finish. My belief is that the camo paint was most likely post war added to make the helmet appear more desirable. The leather work is in excellent shape as are the buckle and pop std on the chin strap and the white cotton head support is free from any damage or staining.
