DESCRIPTION
This is a mid war produced M35 SE64 rear lot numbered 3614 making the helmet produced for the Luftwaffe in late 1938 according to Brian Ice's lot data book. In this book the only other similarly marked M35 SE64 3614 is saying that the liner was also replaced by a mid war sheepskin version just as is the case with this particular example. The helmet has all of it's original paint both inside and out which is called RAL7016 blau grau or blue gray - a code used by the Germans still to this day. Both decals are original and a textbook factory applied ET eagle and national tri-color shield never altered or changed since the end of the war. The decals have definitely faded over time and are now basically like two ghost images which has created a very cool almost haunting effect.
The outer liner band is 100% original as are all 3 split pins. The leather is an aged reproduction which I personally added in a seamless fashion to complete the piece. The chinstrap is a high level reproduction and stamped 1940 to match the rest of the helmet.
Obviously M35 Luftwaffe double decal helmets command a premium over later models and are normally priced in the $1500 - $3000 range so this one is definitely a bargain and for a collector mindful of a budget.

GERMAN HELMET FACTORY PRODUCTION CODES
(Every original German helmet produced from 1935 to 45 had two factory stampings punched into the side and rear or both in the rear. The alpha numeric number refers to the factory location and the inside metric circumference in centimeters. The rear lot number refers to the production run and was used as a quality control measure. The font styles used at each factory were slightly different but highly consistent throughout the war and so fakes or reproductions will either not have these numbers at all or they will use the wrong font style or letter spacing and so are easily identified as post war made.)
