DESCRIPTION
Here we find ourselves with a wonderful mid-war example of your every man's fighting helmet from the Luftwaffe service. This is an M42 CKL66 with a rear lot number of 2814 placing it's production date to early 1943 according to Brian Ice's lot data book. The entire helmet is wonderfully complete and untouched since the war with it's original goat skin liner still in place as well as all 3 retaining split pins untouched and never tampered with. The ET/ckl textbook eagle is nicely aged due to the protective tropically sourced Dammar lacquer resin applied at the time oxidizing into this tea tone hue over the decades that followed. The original chinstrap was sadly missing from the helmet and so a museum quality aged reproduction was added to complete the piece. The name on the inside is Leonard Siegler which is actually the name of the father in law - a related US vet as related to me by his son in law who sold me the helmet. Please see his brief explanation below:
"Hi Jesse, The name inside the helmet, "Leonard Siegler" was the soldier that retrieved the helmet. He was my father-in-law. I am going to guess that the helmet was retrieved somewhere in Belgium as I know he was stationed/fought there. That's all I know as he is no longer with us.He also brought back more items including a 1942 Luger (Mauser Banner Police) with matching serial numbers clip and holster with tool; a complete dagger with scabbard and hangers and 2 more dagger/bayonets, one with scabbard. Money order sending next Tuesday is fine.
Regards, Bill"
A real nice find fresh out of the woodwork from a family out of Largo, Florida.

GERMAN HELMET FACTORY PRODUCTION CODES
(Every original German helmet produced from 1935 to 45 had two factory stampings punched into the side and rear or both in the rear. The alpha numeric number refers to the factory location and the inside metric circumference in centimeters. The rear lot number refers to the production run and was used as a quality control measure. The font styles used at each factory were slightly different but highly consistent throughout the war and so fakes or reproductions will either not have these numbers at all or they will use the wrong font style or letter spacing and so are easily identified as post war made.)
