DESCRIPTION
This helmet came from an advanced collector who is currently downsizing his collection and is a nice mid-war example of a 1942 produced M42 NS62 helmet from the NS- Nikelwerke-Schwerte factory, Germany. The outside paint is 100% original and factory applied in a textured feld grau color with rear lot number 1570 suggesting a production date of August 1942 according to Brian Ice's lot data reference guide. Unfortunately the NS factory eagle has been touched up in my opinion with white paint or possibly even some high level air metallic white brushing work. If I tell you where exactly on the eagle I have my suspicious your eyes will automatically always lead you to that exact same spot time and time again like a crooked tile on your kitchen floor and so better to just keep your mind happy and slightly fooled. My best friend actually installed our kitchen floors (large 2ft x 1ft tiles) but later apologized to me for "messing something up" which he said was a very minor mistake on his part but still was there. He asked me if I could see what he was talking about and I really could not see anything wrong with our kitchen floors. It's been 10 years now and I still can't see anything wrong with the tile job he did for me but then again I'm not on my hands and knees with a magnifying glass either.
One nice feature is that this M42 NS62 helmet is complete with it's original chinstrap still in tact. There is clearly a date on the end of the chinstrap and none of the holes are missing and so we know it was not shortened during the war. The factory stampings at the end of the chinstrap are clearly visible but not clearly legible if that makes sense but my impression is that it marked "gxy 41" but that is only my squinty eyed guess.

GERMAN HELMET FACTORY PRODUCTION CODES
(Every original German helmet produced from 1935 to 45 had two factory stampings punched into the side and rear or both in the rear. The alpha numeric number refers to the factory location and the inside metric circumference in centimeters. The rear lot number refers to the production run and was used as a quality control measure. The font styles used at each factory were slightly different but highly consistent throughout the war and so fakes or reproductions will either not have these numbers at all or they will use the wrong font style or letter spacing and so are easily identified as post war made.)
