M42 HKP66 LW SD COMPLETE HELMET

This helmet is a recent find from of a private auction sale out in Iowa. The helmet is a beautiful example of a late war Luftwaffe M42 helmet complete with it's original chinstrap and pigskin liner system.

The helmet was originally made at the Sachsische Emaillier u. Stanzwerke factory in the city of Lauter, Germany in August of 1942 according to it's rear lot number of 1278. So it's a great mid war fighting example. Around this time the Wehrmacht started trying to save on leather by substituting calf leather for pigskin so this liner has that great old football look to it that I personally love. The outside paint is heavily textured with a smooth enamel finish on the inside. I have found that HKP has the heaviest texture of any maker and this one is a prime textbook example of that distinction.

The chinstrap is 100% original to the helmet with a painted steel buckle and maker marked "Bruno Wildmer, Prague 1942" from occupied Czechoslovakia.

GERMAN HELMET FACTORY PRODUCTION CODES
(Every original German helmet produced from 1935 to 45 had two factory stampings punched into the side and rear or both in the rear.  The alpha numeric number refers to the factory location and the inside metric circumference in centimeters.  The rear lot number refers to the production run and was used as a quality control measure. The font styles used at each factory were slightly different but highly consistent throughout the war and so fakes or reproductions will either not have these numbers at all or they will use the wrong font style or letter spacing and so are easily identified as post war made.)
