This helmet appears to be a re-issued or field painted helmet with a rough textured finish some some debris possibly dirt or wood particles mixed into the paint and then brushed on. Certainly some factory late war finishes especially HKP are known for a rougher texture however this one has rough textured paint on the inside as well as outside and so would have been field applied or done at the depot level. All known factory painted helmets I have encountered should have a smooth finish and so I believe this one to be hand painted at some point during the war.
A great salt of the earth every man’s fighting helmet mid war M40 single decal Heer helmet. The decal is textbook Huber Jordan & Keorner eagle and a original chestnut brown toned liner but unfortunately without it’s original chinstrap. The size is EF62 and the rear lot number is too difficult to make out due to the rough over paint. A very nice display piece and a real shelf Queen to be sure!!!
